What does NEN-EN 1090-1 entail? NEN-EN 1090 has been required since 1 July 2014 for companies that market structural steel and aluminium components and construction kits as construction products. A NEN-EN 1090 certification is required to issue a CE declaration for the manufacturing characteristics and, where applicable, the characteristics of the structural design and structural calculation. The standard has 4 execution classes, which, depending on the risks, place increasingly higher demands on quality assurance. For companies that weld, ISO 3834 must be applied, depending on the execution class.
Who is NEN-EN 1090-1 intended for? NEN-EN 1090 is intended for companies that sell structural steel and aluminium structures as building products under their own name. Companies that do not weld can also have to deal with NEN-EN 1090, such as when assembling products or cutting parts. Examples of products that fall under NEN-EN 1090 include trusses, platforms, stairs, etc. IL&T supervises the application of CE declarations. Fines are imposed for deliveries without the correct CE declaration. In addition, this also has consequences for the supplier's liability in the event of calamities.
